Halloween Hunt

Halloween Hunt is a game that uses decoder glasses to bring the fog of war into a couch co-op setting!

The premise is simple: using color filtered glasses, we can create a party game where two or more players look at the same screen, but see different things! In the past this was accomplished with splitscreen, but this had the obvious drawback where players could look at one another’s screens. This could ruin the fear factor in co-op horror games, or give players an unfair advantage in local multiplayer games. With color tinted glasses, we can fix this problem!

The typical setup features four players sitting side by side, using the same TV.

If you are wearing blue glasses, you can’t see the color red.

And if you are wearing no glasses at all, you can see everything just fine!

Using this old fashioned tech, I created an asymmetrical multiplayer game where three cops try to rescue hostages from a murderer! This prototype was a blast to work on – I’d love to revisit it again at some point.
